Immigration

Illegal immigration is costing our nation a lot. Some think we are getting cheap labor at no extra cost but after you add in the cost of educating the children of the illegals, welfare benefits such as school lunches, and most importantly the lowering of wages for those in low paying jobs it actually isn't cheap labor.
Until we have a secure border we can't even consider most other changes to our system. We have the technology to secure our border and since we are currently trying to stimulate the economy it would be better to build the fence with American labor than send out checks so we could buy more Chinese goods (after we borrow the money to pay for the rebate program).
One thing we could do immediately is to change the constitution so that children born to illegal immigrants do not automatically become citizens just because they were born in America. The citizenship law was passed to reward the families of slaves brought to America against their will and should not apply to women sneaking across the border so their soon to be born kids could be Americans.
Once we have a secure border we can discuss how to handle current illegal immigrants but amnesty should not be an option.
Companies request permission to bring in technical workers on an H-1 visa because they "can't find qualified Americans". All these visas should have a return home date and the company should be required to educate an American to fill the job at that time. The company could do this via on the job training or through University scholarships.
